Love North Devon
See our summer
We just Love the summer at Love North Devon and we're sure you will too!
The long days are ideal for our guests to
get out and about and it's also a great time for us to get loads of jobs
The surfing at Woolacombe and Croyde is
world famous, but if you haven't brought a board or wetsuit then don't
worry as they're always available to rent at any of the large beaches.
On the farm the veg and fruit garden keep
us busy as all the weeding has to be done by hand as we're organic and
we're regularly harvesting salad stuff to add to guests welcome hampers.
Summer is a wonderful time to see the fruits of
our labours. Quite literally, as
apples and pears swell on the cordons in the new orchard and raspberries
form on the adjacent canes.
Kens sheep do a wonderful job helping to
keep the 53 acres maintained and looking pristine but there's still
plenty for us to do as it's the perfect time to repair gates and fences.
The wood is packed with birds and
wildlife and buzzards fly overhead from dawn to dusk looking for a tasty
meal. What is apparent is how green everything is, the trees on
the farm predominantly ash and oak are full of life and all around from
every view point can be seen Devons green fields dotted with sheep.
What we love most about the summer is meeting our guests and their
families and sharing evenings over a glass of wine or cider or maybe
having a BBQ.
We know the guests love feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs and
we nearly always have volunteers for feeding and catching the pigs in
the top field. We usually have around three pigs and quite often
the pigs will have managed to sneak into the big field. They're quite
small and are great escape artists and love to share the field with the
sheep - naughty pigs!
There's the opportunity to laze down by the lake and do a spot of
fishing or have a leisurely row in our boat or for the kids (and crazy
adults) to slide down the slide and cool off in the water. The
dragonflies are amazing and it's fun to watch the fish leap out of the
water from time to time with a big splash.
Sitting by the lake in summer with a book or fishing rod in hand can be
the most relaxing and enjoyable way to spend an afternoon or early
As the day draws to a close perhaps you'd
like to sit around the brazier and warm your feet after a days surfing
or walking. If the sky is clear, look up and gaze at the magnificent
night sky - Exmoor has one of the clearest night skies in the world and
is one of only two places on earth that qualifies as an international
dark sky reserve.
